This work is a visualization of the complexity of contemporary womanhood. There are continually more and more ways that women are shown how to behave. From yogurt commercials to Sheryl Sandberg, we are force fed the ideology that to be a successful woman we must be a fit, light-skinned, career-driven mother, who rarely stops smiling. Enough.

The layering techniques used in the mixed media prints represent a conversation.  Everyone comes to the table with different ideas. Through dialogue overlaps are discovered. Sexuality, fertility, and reproduction are a significant theme in this body of work. I was raised by a single mother with help from my grandmother and aunts. I grew up surrounded by women laughing, crying, supporting and loving each other. This body of work is an homage to the women who have shared their strength and wisdom with me.
